Beauchamps is proud to be one of the founding signatories to the Pro Bono Pledge Ireland, a new initiative that promotes access to justice and to the provision of pro bono legal assistance to those in need.
The pledge provides a common definition of pro bono, as well as a commitment to a minimum aspirational target of 20 pro bono hours per lawyer per year.
Pro Bono Pledge Ireland, launched on 26 November 2020 by James Browne, Minister of State for Law Reform, was developed by an independent group in of law firms, barristers, and in-house legal teams, coordinated by the Public Interest Law Alliance. It has the support of the Bar of Ireland, The Law Society of Ireland and the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association.
Commenting on the pledge, Tony O'Sullivan, Beauchamps' Head of Pro Bono said: "As a firm, we have been rooted in our community for over two centuries and therefore believe it is important to continue supporting our community. This pledge is a valuable opportunity to formalise our commitment to providing legal services to those who cannot afford it. As the pledge states, we have a privileged role as solicitors and a duty to secure access to justice for all, no matter their personal circumstances. We are delighted, as one of the founding signatories, to support this welcome collaboration across the legal profession in Ireland and are certain it will be a significant power for good."
